The Boy and his Echo

One day, Milo was walking alone by the sea. As he walked along, he looked for shells. At last, he found a very pretty one among the stones. “Ho-Ho!” he shouted very loud.
“Ho!” answered a voice coming from the high rocks.
Milo looked up at the rocks. He looked all around, but he did not see anyone.
   “Who are you?” he asked.
“Who are you?”  came the answer. Still, Milo did not see anyone.
“You must be a foolish boy,” said Milo crossly.
   “Foolish boy,” answered the voice.
When Milo heard these words, he grew angry.
He called out the boy hiding among the rocks to come up. Whatever he said, the said, too. He called him rude names. The boy called him rude names, too.
Milo went behind the rocks and hunted for the boy.
When he went home, Milo told his mother about the boy. “There was a bad boy hiding among the rocks. He called me rude names.”
“Did you call him rude names?” asked his mother.
    “Yes, I did,“ answered Milo.
“Who was the first one to call out?” asked his mother.
Milo answered slowly, ”I was. I asked him who he was, all he said was, ‘Who are you?’”
     Milo’s mother smiled at him.
“I think I can tell who the boy was,” answered his mother. “His name is Echo. When you called out, the rocks gave back the sound of your own voice. You thought it was another boy. If you had talked politely, you would have heard only polite answers. An echo is a repeated sound cause by reflection of sound waves.”

This story is about the boy who mistaken that someone was foolishing him and he got angry about it. Sometimes, we usually act and speak without knowing and thinking the consequences that it would bring to us. Ignorance sometimes may bring us to danger but we should learn in our own mistakes and experiences.  When I had read it, it makes me laugh of the situation that the boy has encountered because of his ignorance not knowing that the voice he heard was an echo coming from his own voice. The moral of the story is “Think before you act and don’t accuse someone without knowing the truth.” It is often times the common mistakes of some us. And if you want to hear polite words, talk to him or her politely. It’s like Do not do unto others what you do not like them to do unto you
